Frequently Asked Questions

  • Counselling is a talk therapy that is often more short-term and present focused. It can be helpful when you are navigating a specific issue such as stress, loss, relationship difficulties or a life transition. The focus is on support, understanding and coping in the here and now.

Psychotherapy tends to be more in-depth and longer term. It involves exploring deeper patterns and early experiences and how they might continue to shape your thoughts, emotions, relationships and sense of self today.

In reality it is difficult to separate therapy neatly into these two categories as they continuously overlap depending on what you bring to your sessions on any given day. I believe what matters is that you feel heard, accepted and understood.

  • Sessions are available from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday. I have sessions on a Saturday from 9am to 4 pm.

I recommend that clients attend counselling weekly in order to make best use of the counselling process. However I do offer flexibility to those working shifts or unpredictable hours.

  • The first session is an intake session and is a little different from the others. We will spend some time discussing what brings you to therapy and what you would like support with. We will go through some background information and paperwork. I will tell you about how I work and answer any questions you may have.

The aim of the first session is to help you feel at ease with your decision to attend counselling. If it is an in-person session, I hope you use to first session to get comfortable in my therapy room as it will become your space too over time.

At the end of the session you can decide if you would like to book another session and begin our work together. If you have any doubts or concerns you are welcome to go away and think about it before committing to therapy.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes long and cost €60

  • How long you attend therapy is entirely up to you.

It can take a few sessions to settle into a therapeutic relationship and so I recommend that we do six weekly sessions and review how we are getting on. In my experience most of my clients stay long term but some have been very happy to finish after 12-16 sessions.

  • To ensure fairness and availability for all clients, I kindly ask that any cancellations be made with at least 48 hours notice.

    • Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice will incur a 50% cancellation fee. This is because short notice may not allow sufficient time to offer the session to another client.

    • Non-attendance without any notice or cancellations made on the day will incur the full session fee.

    • If you wish to reschedule your appointment please get in touch and I will try my best to accommodate you in the same week.
